Kai

It’s been three weeks since the news story about my supposed misconduct broke. I’ve been losing clients left and right all while trying to keep my staff calm and continue working with the clients who want to stick by me.

Ciara has given birth to a healthy baby girl but is still adamant about helping me in whatever way she can, despite my protests. Reggie has been working on cease and desist letters left and right.

I’m still waiting to hear from my private investigator resource, but he assures me he’s on the cusp of something that will solve all of our problems. Hopefully, I’ll still have a practice to save by the time he gets back to me.

Currently, I’m working with Olivia on some progression testing now that she’s at the six-month mark. Typically, I like to do this step toward the latter end of the spectrum; however, most professional athletes want to get back to the game before the one-year mark so it’s better for me to start testing at the six-month mark so I can gauge how far off we are from that goal.

“Okay, love, you’re going to stand on this with your big toe on the line.” She moves her right foot up so that her big toe aligns with exactly the spot I’ve pointed out on the y-balance test kit. “Then you’re going to use your toe on your left foot to try to push this peg out as far as you can, then back to standing position.”

I have her do a trial of the movement on each side before I begin the actual measurements, starting with her right anterior, then moving to her left anterior, her right and left posteromedial, and her right and left posterolateral.

Once I have her numbers I’ll be able to compare them to healthy athletes within her same age, gender, and sport. Based on what I’m seeing though, I’m feeling confident that she should actually be ready to return before the one-year mark. That worries me for more reasons than one, but I’ll be damned if I try to hold her back in any way. As long as she can do so safely, I’ll make sure she gets back on that field.

“That’s good. Meet me by the treadmills. I just gotta get my camera so we can do your running gait assessment.”

As I make my way over to where Olivia is waiting, I take a minute just to observe her. Her long, dark tresses are pulled into a bun that frames her heart-shaped face. Her lime-green tank top pops against the rich brown of her skin while her gray athletic shorts call attention to her toned legs. It’s almost distracting, the way her beauty radiates off her.
