  43. About the Author

She folds her knees beneath her and leaves my knees weak as she trails her tongue so painstakingly slowly up each one.

“Delicious combo,” she compliments while smacking her lips. This fucking woman.

She drapes her arms over my shoulders when she’s done and dives right in with her next question. “What happened between you and Po Po?”

I’m disoriented at first, but I gather my senses quickly. Not an easy feat when she’s still perched on my lap. It’s a question I was expecting, and given what she shared with me it doesn’t make my chest burn the way it did before. Instead, I’m grateful to finally be in a place where I can tell her this. I tell her everything about the decline of Po Po’s and my relationship, and she listens intently the entire time.

“I wasn’t expecting that and I’m so disappointed. I’m sorry.”

“It’s not a big deal.”

“It is. She’s your grandmom, and you shouldn’t have to question her love for you, and you shouldn’t have to act like you’re not hurting because of it.”

I smirk at the fierce protectiveness radiating off her right now. She slaps my arm but makes me promise that I’ll confront Po Po about all of it sooner rather than later, not maliciously, but to protect my own peace.

“You’ll regret it if you don’t,” she says. “Everyone is always so concerned with preserving the happiness of those headed toward death, but they forget about the ones left behind. Don’t carry this with you to your deathbed. Deal with it now so that when you’re both gone, the grief has no place to go but back in the ground.”

I let that sit with me while I claim my prize and then come our next two questions.

It isn’t until her question that I snap completely back to reality. “How many women have you kissed since me?”

Odd question considering she already asked me about women I’ve dated since her. “Like body count?”

“No, just kiss.”

I frown at the question. “I don’t know.”

“You don’t have a guess?”

I rattle off a number that I’m not even sure is correct. It hasn’t been a lot, that’s for sure, but can I put a number to it? Yeah, if I sat down to really think about it, but it just strikes me as odd that she wants to know about kissing and not sex. My curiosity is piqued so I decide to test a theory.

“How many men have you kissed since me?”

She just stares at me for a moment before that devilish grin is back in place. “Wait, are you skipping your prize?”

“No, I’m delaying it. Answer the question.”

“Zero.”

“Zero? What do you mean zero?”
