“Anyway,” I say, rushing on, and taking his silence as a very, very bad thing, “I just wanted to tell you so you didn’t hear it from a friend or anything. You know, who watches the show.”
“Yeah,” he says, shifting his weight on the bed again. “Um, actually, Ally, if we’re being honest, someone told me about that a while ago.”
“Wait, what?” I say, confused. Someone already told him about it? It just happened like five minutes ago.
“Yeah, you were in the bathroom, talking to Jasmine.”
OH. MY. GOD. WHAT? He’s known this whole time? Ever since I told Jasmine in the bathroom? And he never said anything? I rack my brain, trying to think of anything embarrassing I may have done since then, but breathe a sigh of relief once I realize I’ve basically been avoiding him. Well, besides that whole sleeping in his bed thing.
Oh my God. This is a disaster. If he’s known this whole time and didn’t say anything, then he’s obviously not interested. This is horrible. Have I not learned anything? Never tell a boy you like him, never, ever, ever.
I take a deep breath and try to think about what Katie Holmes as First Daughter would do. “That’s fine,” I say haughtily. “I just wanted to tell you so you wouldn’t freak out.” I stand up to go, but he puts his hand on my arm and pulls me back down on the bed.
“Ally, I didn’t say anything about you liking me because I didn’t want to get in the way of you and Corey.” He looks uncomfortable.
“Look, it’s not a big deal,” I say. “Seriously. I mean, I know you have the Andrea girl at the gym or whatever, along with countless others, and I just didn’t want—”
“Andrea at the gym?” He looks confused. “I don’t go to the gym with anyone.”
“But Kelly said . . . ,” I trail off, feeling stupid. “But that girl you were talking to at the party that night? The night I slept in—the night I got drunk.” He frowns. “She was blond,” I offer helpfully.
“That’s Tristan,” he says. “She’s my biology TA. I was asking her about an assignment, and then I just ended up hanging out with her and her boyfriend for the rest of the night.”
“Oh,” I say, looking at the ground. Great. So Kelly lied just to see if she could get a reaction out of me. Ugh. Suddenly I realize that I’m sitting on Drew’s bed. The bed that I slept in. With him. The thought makes me hot, and I hope he can’t tell by looking at my face.
