“Yeah, I’m sorry, too. Sorry I ever believed you.” I look down at the ground for a second, and then back up at her. “But mostly, I’m sorry that you’re the kind of person that would let yourself get so caught up in some ridiculous delusions of grandeur that you’d sell out your friend. Because that must be really lonely for you.”
She looks away. I start walking toward the house. “Oh,” I say, turning back to face her. “One more thing. Stay away from me, and stay away from Drew, or I’ll have Jasmine kick your ass.” And with that, I turn around, walk quickly to the house, and right up to Drew’s room.
NOW
I had no choice. I had just admitted on camera that I liked him. I could have let him hear about it or see it on a replay, but that’s just ridiculous. I had to, at the very least, apologize to him for the way I acted. And depending on how he reacted, I figured I might just tell him how I felt. After all, things were already completely messed up. I had nothing to lose.
THEN
I knock on Drew’s door quickly before I can change my mind.
“Come in!” Drew calls from the other side. Shit. I figured he would answer the door, and then possibly invite me in. That way, I’d be able to tell if he was really pissed or not. Because he obviously wouldn’t let me in if he was pissed.
I debate running back to my room. But no one else in the house is home, which means it would be pretty obvious that it was me playing ding dong dash. Besides, I’m not chickening out. I pretend I don’t hear him, and knock again.
“Come in!” he says. Shit, shit, shit. What is wrong with him? Who just says “come in” without asking who it is? I could be the crazy shirt ripper-upper, coming to do something worse. I’m debating whether or not I can get away with just knocking again when Drew opens the door.
“Oh,” he says, looking surprised “Hi.”
“Hi,” I say. “I, um, wasn’t sure you were here, since, um, no one said anything when I knocked.”
“I said ‘come in.’”
“Oh. I didn’t hear you.”
“Oh.” Shit. Now what? For some reason, I forgot to rehearse what I was going to say, which was a terrible plan. Every teen movie I’ve ever seen shows the main character rehearsing what she’s going to say before she enters a stressful situation. Even if she ends up actually saying what she rehearsed—which is inevitably very stupid—at least she’s said something and isn’t left just standing there looking ridiculous. Like I am right now.
