‘Not a clue.’ Lore’s voice cracked with the bitter emotion of an unloved child. ‘And I really don’t care. I don’t bear Rachel any ill will. I pitied her, I still pity her, wherever she is.’ Her head dropped and when it lifted again just a few moments later, her eyes were blurred with tears. ‘But it still hurts that she never made any attempt to love me the way she did Jez.’
‘I’m very sorry,’ said Sasha, and she stood, keen to drive back to Southend.

‘Wait, slow down.’ Jez pulled his fingers through his wet hair. ‘What’s happened?’
‘I’ve been kidding myself, bruv.’ Abs flung his hands in the air. ‘I thought if I could just get back with Kelsey, I’d be fixed, but I’ve been fooling myself. I thought she still loved me, despite everything, but she never did and never will. And because of that, I did the wrong thing, we did the wrong thing.’
Jez frowned. ‘Aren’t you back on the show?’
‘Course I ain’t.’ Abs thought he was going to cry. ‘They don’t want me back. I was making a cameo, that’s all it was, all it was ever intended to be.’
‘But that appearance could lead to—’
