- About the Author
"Was that mom?" I ask when I sit down on the chair in front of his desk.
"Yea. She went to the mall with Emma to buy something for Val and Mia."
I furrow my eyebrows. "Val and Mia are coming over?"
Val and Mia are my aunt and uncle, not by blood, but they are very close to my dad. Mia is a journalist in America and Val has been traveling all over the world, so I haven't really heard from him.
"Yes."
"Why?"
"I will tell you in a little but let's wait for Alexander."
Suspicious but okay.
Then I remember Killian.
"I think something is wrong with Killian," I claim. My dad looks up at me. "He hasn't been acting the same since I left. Did something happen?"
My dad takes his hands off the computer and turns to look at me. "I don't know. I tried talking to him, but he doesn't want to talk. I know something happened though."
"What do you think happened?"
My dad lets out a sigh. "No clue but you're right, he doesn't seem like himself."
"I can try talking to him," I offer.
My dad nods his head. "Make sure it's soon though because his birthday is coming up and I want him to be happy you know?" My dad and Killian don't have the best relationship. Killian always likes to challenge my dad and then argues with him about everything. I have a feeling that Killian and my dad are going to have a lot of issues when he gets older. I nod my head at the same time we hear a knock on the door. "Come in."
The door opens and I already know that it's Alexander who walks in. I don't make any moves to look at him, I just stare straight at my father.
"What do you need?" Alexander asks as he sits next to me in the chair.
My dad lets out a frustrated sigh and looks at the papers on his desk. "In a week, your wedding is going to happen."
“A week? I thought that was going to be farther out. Maybe summer?” I question.
“No. I want to get this done as fast as possible.”
“Why? We already dealt with the Russians. Do we even need to have a wedding?”
“Yes. It would be better if we joined the mafias again. I don’t like the threat that Russia made with our family and even though they are dealt with, that doesn’t mean that other groups won’t threaten us.”
“I don’t think it’s necessary,” Alexander argued.
“If you have a problem with it, Alexander, then go join some other group because this is happening. You two are getting married. I’m not going to argue with the both of you.”
I can’t help but look at Alexander.
He is slouching in his chair, staring at my father with his jaw clenched.
