Other supernaturals often thought I was joking when I said I was a leprechaun. It was annoying and the fae were the worst of the bunch. These days I hardly corrected someone if they asked if I was a type of fae. The elves were better at least--a Germanic fae relative. Still pompous assholes though.
The sensation of being watched prickled my skin as I drank. Viktor was still here but not showing himself yet. What did he want? I couldn’t find his golden eyes so I quickly finished my drink and moved towards the dance floor. If he wasn’t going to come to me, I’d find him. I wasn’t one to wait around for a situation to strike and I’d learned to indulge my impulses.
On the floor, I moved through the people until I could see the DJ. He wore an oversized helmet fashioned with LED lights. It looked like it could be a wolf with large ears and a menacing snout. I let my body relax and felt the music move through me. My hands went up and my head flung from side to side as I jumped up and down, working to dissipate my pent up energy. The Irish Trash Can mixed with the Greed that was already coursing through my bloodstream.
My teeth clenched as I rode the buzzing excitement inside me. I needed to burn off energy and this was helping. Before the first song even ended I felt strong fingers reach out and grip my waist. There was no hesitation or fumbling. The person held me possessively, taking both hips in his clutch.
“You’ve been following me, haven’t you?” I asked over my shoulder, knowing Viktor had taken the bait. I felt a breath on my neck as he moved his body in closer. His scent was oddly fresh, like the woods on a cool night—damp logs and clean air. His hands moved across my waist as if he was soaking in the details of my body. I liked that sort of attention. He was unhurried but confident. Forward, but not overly aggressive as his fingers traced the exposed parts of me.
He was probably here to demand his money back, maybe even kill me. Which made the blood rush in my body, my ears pounding with my heartbeat. My nipples tightened and I swayed, seeking friction with his body. The big, bad, dangerous man who wanted trouble made me horny.
I looked over my shoulder—dark hair, a nice suit, sunglasses tucked into the breast pocket of his jacket. Golden eyes glowed vibrantly at me and something about them up close made me feel uncomfortable. The pupils, I realized, weren’t normal. They were sideways bars, like a goat, and almost seemed to vibrate in the middle of those liquid golden pools.
The sensation of being in the grasp of something entirely inhuman electrocuted me and I jerked. His eyes and smile widened in delight. Before I could decide whether I wanted to pry myself from his clutch, he spun me around and twirled us together in a dance not made for this sort of music.
