  39. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

“It means if you break the deal, the sidhe king himself decides your punishment. What do you think?” Puca asked, looking at me. “Should we chop off her head? Make you two a matching pair if she fails her obligations?”

“Aye, sounds fitting,” I said. She shot me an unamused look and I darted in and captured her lips, kissing her silly. Then I grabbed Puca and gave him one as well.

“I’m going to go check on Lorcan,” I said as I backed away. Puca tightened his hold on Lacey. He and Lorcan had a way of holding on to her like they thought she’d run. It was amusing, particularly because if she did decide to run, there was no way they could stop her.

“I really don’t know if my luck can get us out of this one,” Lacey said to him. Puca hummed, a small smile on his lips.

“I’m sure it’ll all work out one way or another.”

“You have such faith in my powers?” Lacey asked him. He shrugged.

I finally left them, heading down from the roof to the condo.

Lorcan had been sleeping since his big feast. It had apparently taken a lot out of him to finally let go. I felt relieved it had happened. Yes, he’d put an entire island into some demonic heat but he didn’t do what he had feared. Lacey was fine, just like I knew she would be. She was made tough.

Though next time, it was for the best she had her luck intact.

Quietly, I opened his door but the bed was empty. He came padding out of the bathroom before flopping on the chair at his sitting table. I dropped a large pot of tea and a mug on the table. I eyed where his wings were missing.

“I thought you were done hiding,” I said. His horns were out and his eyes were black and red. His tattoos were on his skin but not moving at the moment. However, I couldn’t see his tail, his fangs, or the claws on the ends of his fingers.

“I’m not hiding,” he said as I poured his mug full. He grabbed it before leaning back in his chair, stretching himself out, and slowly casting me a glance over the rim of the cup as he drank. His gaze always caused gooseflesh to appear. My reaction was harder to control now that I wasn’t three sheets to the wind all the time. I gave a little shudder.

“Where’s your wings then?” I asked, going over to the bed and flopping on the edge. He took a drink of his tea before shooting me an irritated look.

“It’s just practicality,” he sighed. “What happened while I was passed out?”

“We got Lacey’s luck back and sent Remington into the ocean. Even if that bastard can’t die he won’t be crawling back anytime soon. The storm is over…” I trailed off.

“What is it?” He asked. I sighed. Part of me wanted to lie and hide it. Let him live the last hour of his life without concern.
