“Come on,” Dullahan said before whistling for his Hellhorse. “Let’s get back to the Tower of Sin.”

Puca, Lacey, and I looked up at the sky from the roof of Plutus. There was a gray haze over the city. The remnants of the storm had not completely abated. It was as if the city sky was aware it only had a short moment between the chaos it had already suffered, and the destruction flying towards it.
At least it wasn’t storming. Also, all of Remington’s little zombies were dead in the street when we came back. Perhaps the psychopath could only withstand so much damage before he finally broke. Hopefully, he was a floating corpse in the ocean.
There was no good way of knowing when the missile would get here. Those things were fast but we had no idea when the Council finally pressed the button to launch. Had they already? Were they still waiting? Luck was on our side though, so I imagined we might at least have the rest of the day to live.
“Should we leave?” Puca asked.
“No one is leaving. The planes are grounded and the ships are all out to sea. The one ship that was left got blown up,” I said angrily to him.
“Oh come now, Dullahan,” Lacey said, turning to me with a sly smile. “Those are small matters in the face of my luck.” She was beautiful and cocky. However, I didn’t think those things were going to help us.
“There may be no getting out of this one,” I said. “Even with your luck.”
“I’ll…” Lacey frowned, trailing off when no schemes came to her. I gave a sad smile, rubbing the lines between her eyebrows. The thought of this being her end was infuriating to me but with no outlet for that anger, I buried it down deep.
“You’re thinking too hard,” I told her warmly. Lacey snorted and rolled her eyes as she leaned against my chest.
“I’ll figure something out. It’s part of the contract I protect you three. I can’t go against what’s already been signed and sealed.”
“That would set a bad precedent,” I said with amusement. I leaned forward, bringing our mouths closer. “Plus, unfortunately, sealing our deal with a kiss made it more than a simple contract.” I tried to kiss her but she pulled back and narrowed her eyes at me.
“What does that mean?” She asked.
“You kissed on it?” Puca asked with delight.
“What aren’t you telling me?” She said with a glare.
“I’m the sidhe king, love. You made it an enchanted bargain when you decided to seal things in such a special way.”
“What does that mean exactly?” She asked. Puca stepped behind her, sliding his arm around her waist and pressing his body flush with hers. Now she was between the two of us with no escaping.
