  39. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

After a moment of thought, one thing swam to the surface. The beautiful excuse Dullahan gave when he refused to fuck me.

“So I’m not mortal,” I said with narrowed eyes. Dullahan's face flushed and he looked away.

“I didn’t know for sure then but with the state of Neo Atlantis it’s obvious you are.”

“Fucking Tu Shen,” I grumbled, thinking back to his cryptic remarks. He knew. All that “gods can’t be friends with lesser beings” talk that I chalked up to nonsensical hubris.

“Who?” Dullahan asked.

“Chinese God she was fucking,” Puca said, licking my neck.

“I was not fucking him and can you stop?” I asked. “Now is not the time.”

“I’ve found out my fated one is immortal like me. I can’t help myself.”

“Shit,” I cursed, the reality of Dullahan’s dropped bomb starting to catch up with me. I was feeling dizzy. I tried to lie down again and bumped my head on the headboard.

“Fuck!” I snapped. “At this rate, I’m going to die choking on my own spit,” I hissed.

“You need to stay in bed,” Dullahan said. “A god losing their powers is a dangerous thing.”

“I’m unlucky,” I said to the ceiling. I ground my teeth and then kicked the blanket off and leapt out of bed. “I’m not sitting in bed while that bastard wanders around my island with my luck,” I seethed. “He has what's mine and you just want me to lay in bed?” I asked with distaste.

“Lacey,” Dullahan sighed as I began stomping towards my closet. My feet tangled with the bed’s blanket and I fell to the ground with a huff.

“Goddamnit,” I growled, army crawling to the closet until I reached up and twisted the knob. The knob came loose and dropped on my head with a clunk. I raged, clawing at the closet to try and rip it open but apparently even getting dressed was too big a task for me now.

“I don’t need fresh clothes to murder Remington,” I growled, climbing off the ground and stomping out of the room.

“Lacey, please,” Dullahan sighed with annoyance.

“This is kind of entertaining,” Puca said.

“Both of you shut up,” I snapped, looking over my shoulder. I walked into the living room’s depressed center, shrieking as I fell over on the couch below me. I bounced off the hard cushions and saw that my head was aiming toward the coffee table. Dullahan snatched the back of my shirt at the last moment, stopping me from braining myself.

“Thanks,” I said with a shaky breath. I heard tearing before my shirt ripped. I finished my fall into the table, suffering a bump to my forehead.

“I give up,” I grumbled, crawling onto the couch and glaring out the windows. I couldn’t see the city at all through the gray haze of the storm. Suddenly a series of blankets and pillows were wrapped around me. I ignored Puca as he cocooned me up in a safety nest.
