“I don’t anticipate it but it’s hard to know with the company I’m currently keeping,” I sighed.
“That’s a small relief. Give me a heads-up next time you plan to be kidnapped. I’m in the middle of a blossoming war and then the storm blew in, making it impossible for a shipment off the coast to dock.”
“How is any of this related to me?”
“Your naivety is refreshing and I won’t be the one to crush it. Where are you?”
“Plutus. I own it.”
“Hmm, kidnapping turns into owning Plutus, imagine that,” he said without any surprise. “If things go south again, I’ll at least know where to find you.” With that, he hung up. I sighed.
“As always, he’s as clear as mud. And what storm?” I walked out of the room they’d put me in. It was the worst room in the house and also the very last time I’d be pushed off into it because this was my place now. They could huddle in here all together.
The master would be mine once the wild animal was removed from it. They all needed to be removed actually. It would be for the best to detach as quickly as possible before any of us grew even more attached than we already were. Not that I was. At all.
That meant dealing with Remington. I looked out the windows. The sun was starting to rise, the sky a deep orange. Odd there was a storm before. I’d never seen one here, other than the occasional shower which I invariably missed by a few minutes or a few city blocks depending on how you looked at it. Apparently, the storms used to be so bad that Neo Atlantis nearly sank into the sea several times. I hadn’t seen that since living here though.
It was quiet and dark in the living room. There was no sign of the men around. Last I’d seen, Dullahan was going to go lick wounds or throw punches, I wasn’t sure which. Perhaps they were still caught up in that. My eyes drifted to the long stretch of green onyx that made up the kitchen’s bar countertop.
Two of Remington’s guns sat on top. I knew he had more than two guns but I wondered how many of them were his special immortal killers. I snatched up one and clicked open the cylinder. Six shiny rounds were ready to rock and roll. I snapped it shut and left the penthouse. I scribbled the boys a little note, letting them know they should pack because I expected their problem to be solved within the hour.
I tapped the gun against my leg, feeling jittery as soon as the elevator doors closed and it started to move down. I hadn’t felt jittery in the penthouse. My Greed had been more manageable since coming here. Was it the penthouse or was it the men? I ground my teeth in annoyance because I knew the answer and didn’t like it. They kept my Greed satisfied with their danger and sex.
