- ABOUT THE AUTHOR
“I want it all.” Mac barely finished the sentence before she held her hand up and gave me a stern glare. “Not literally. I couldn’t eat all this before it went bad, and it’d be a crime to waste this kind of deliciousness.”
“Got anything new?” I asked Piper since she loved to tweak her rotation.
She looked up from her phone, and I let out a dramatic sigh that was all bullshit. She knew it and grinned. “Fresh fruit tarts. Pumpkin whoopie pies. And, due to the risk of copyright infringement, mini cookies and frosting dip we call 90s nostalgia snack.”
“That isn’t helping me narrow it down,” Mac said, making Piper grin so big, her cheeks would hurt.
As expected, it wasn’t long before her man came through. His focus was on her, and he kissed her like he didn’t give a shit we were there, let alone the other customers.
Trailing not far behind was his second-in-command, Kase.
When Judge needed major work done on his Harley, Nox had introduced him to the Hyde crew. After that, all of Mayhem switched to using them ’cause they were honest and good as hell at what they did.
Two qualities a biker wanted in a garage.
Two qualities that were hard to find.
The fact said garage was connected to the best bakery in the state didn’t hurt, either.
Once Jake tore his face away from his wife, he lifted his chin at me. Unlike Piper, there was only a small flash of surprise that he quickly hid.
“Mac, this is Piper,” I belatedly introduced. “She owns the bakery. The caveman mauling her is her husband, Jake. He owns the connected garage. And that’s Kase. I think he colors or something.”
Kase gave me the finger as he walked around the counter. “You saying you want me to go outside and scratch up that shiny blue paint job I worked forever to get perfect for you?”
“Let’s not get crazy.”
“That’s what I thought, fucker.” His glare was gone when he smiled at Mac, extending his hand. “Nice to meet you.”
“You, too.”
Jake came around and did the same.
While Piper gave Mac a detailed rundown of all the available goods, Kase, Jake, and I shot the shit. It didn’t take long before Jake shifted so his back was to our women.
I figured he’d ask about the baby. It’d been a while since I’d been to the garage, but not that long. I’d be surprised if they weren’t curious.
But when he finally spoke, it wasn’t to grill me. “Hasn’t been more than a couple minutes, and you’ve glanced over at her a hundred damn times to make sure she’s good.” He smiled. “Already got it bad, man.”
