  123. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

She thrived on the chaos and loved clubhouse life. She liked the chill nights and the parties. All the brothers coming through to hang out.

And a kitchen stocked with her favorite foods didn’t hurt, either.

That was why I grabbed the pack of freshly made waffles from the freezer and popped four into the toaster. ’Cause I was selfless like that, sacrificing my abs to make the move easier on her.

I turned around and barely stopped myself from throwing a punch.

Talking about my dick would’ve been bad but punching the housekeeper would’ve been a fuck-ton worse.

“Sorry,” she whispered, jumping out of swinging range. “Your boss is… scary.”

“Not my boss,” I corrected. “My president, but not my boss.”

Her brows lowered, cluing me in that I’d done fuck-all to clarify shit. I didn’t try again. I didn’t care to get into the hierarchy with her.

“That explains why you ordered him around. If I tried to do that?” She let out a visible tremor that didn’t look exaggerated for effect.

While my waffles toasted, I brewed coffee and drained one of O’s cans of Diet Coke.

Another selfless act.

I fixed my coffee and gestured to the chick to fix hers. Her wary gaze kept shooting to me, reminding me of someone else’s shadow-filled eyes.

Mac.

Shit, I hope she’s okay.

Shoulda left my number…

That she would’ve trashed the moment the door hit my ass on the way out.

The toaster popped, and like a dumbass, I grabbed the waffles out with my bare hands, bobbling them until they stopped trying to fuse with my flesh.

I plated one and handed it to the chick.

“I’m okay, thank you.” She sipped at the minuscule amount of coffee she’d taken, while longingly staring between the coffee maker and the outstretched plate.

Like she was afraid to have more.

“Eat. Drink. No one is gonna be pissed. Not at you, at least. So chill. Enjoy. Told ya, we’ll figure it all out.”

She gave a hesitant nod and bit into the waffle before closing her eyes.

“What’s your name?”

“Katarzyna,” she said, her accent thicker. Her cheeks flushed. “I mean, Kat.”

“Might need to teach us to pronounce it right, but we’re not incompetent. We’ll learn. Got it?”

She didn’t respond as she eyed me.

I knocked off another cup of coffee and two of the waffles before there was noise out front. Taking my drink and waffle with me, I pushed through the swinging doors to see Glitch had arrived.

I could feel my shadow trailing, using my body as a shield.

Judge glanced over and did a double take. “My wife is gonna kill you in your sleep for eating her waffles.”

A high, panicked squeak came from behind me, and I stepped aside as Katarzyna tried to hide her waffle behind her back.
