She reached out and used the mouse to hit send. “Sorry that took so long. I couldn’t find the button.”

“I’m so fuckin’ proud of you.” I kissed her again before reluctantly pulling away. “I’ll be back later, baby.”

“Stay safe.”

* * *

Detective Eddie Bell had been good at chasing criminals. He’d been just as good at running like one.

Just not as good as Nox.

After Eddie had gotten away, I’d called in Nox. It’d taken him a day to find the detective holed up in a cabin in Maine—a long time for him when he already had a name to go on.

I’d been tempted to have Nox trail Eddie for a few days. He deserved a taste of the fear and paranoia he’d forced Mac to live in, watching over her shoulder at every turn.

But I wouldn’t risk him getting away. Nox had hauled him back to Boston and loaned me a warehouse.

One in the middle of nowhere with no one around for miles.

I’d taken my time. I’d made sure Eddie felt every ounce of terror he’d inflicted on Mac over the years. I’d made sure he was beat and cut and torn apart, just like he’d done to her in the video.

It’d taken less than an hour for the video to spread like viral wildfire.

It hadn’t taken long for everyone to turn on Eddie.

His phone had blown up with hate messages that I’d read to him between using a mini torch to burn his nipples.

And right before I’d put a bullet in his thick skull, I’d made sure he knew how completely alone he was.

I had Mac in my bed. I had her love. She carried my baby.

And thanks to the video, his friends wouldn’t miss him. His cop buddies weren’t gonna waste their time with him. Everyone would assume he’d taken off.

No one would find him.

No one would even look for him.

Even if they wanted to, it’d be impossible to find him.

’Cause standing in the middle of a farm, the smell of shit clinging to cold air, I watched as pigs devoured the pieces until nothing was left.

“Aye, you good?” Nox asked.

Like I’d told Eddie…

I had Mac in my bed. I had her love. She carried my baby.

And she would have peace. No looking over her shoulder. No worrying about him coming after her or Squish.

She’d be safe and protected and worshiped ’cause that was what she deserved.

Which was why I said, “Better than good. Owe you.”

He thumped my back. “With what this fooker did? Nah, lad, this is on the house.”

There was no use arguing. Like the rest of us, Nox had his own bent moral compass he lived by.
