Here’s a sentence that doesn’t get written enough: thank goodness for in-laws! Because, without mine, this book wouldn’t exist. When I set out to write about a mommune, I knew that I wanted Charlotte to feel like she had no choice but to go live with relative strangers because her husband had committed a financial crime and she didn’t have access to her house. Enter: Taylor Coleman, CFP, CLU, CHFP, and brother-in-law, who I just so happened to work for before I was a writer. I should preface this by saying, Taylor is the most honest, forthright person I know. But he sure whipped up a great, sneaky crime for me. Now we needed to figure out how Bill would be punished for it. Thank goodness Amy Bower, my cousin-in-law, (We are much closer than that fake title implies!) is an Assistant United States Attorney. Let me tell you, figuring out how to punish someone when he is guilty of a crime isn’t so bad. Making him innocent but keeping him locked up long enough to let this story unfold? Well, we had our work cut out for us!

All that to say, I did take some liberties to get my characters where I needed them. Isn’t that the beauty of fiction? And, of course, all mistakes are my very own. But huge thanks to Taylor and Amy for all your help on this book and making me sound somewhat competent. I am eternally grateful!
