You’re right, I was on the train when you emailed. There was reception now and again but I don’t think all my messages were coming through. I’m having a great time! Obviously it’s not the same at all without Laura, but I’ve made a new friend – she’s called Violet, she’s about my age. Comes from Nottingham but has lived all over. I think her parents are super-rich from what she’s been saying but she hasn’t paid me for anything yet … aargh. I know, I know. I’m going to ask her for some money today. I don’t really mind about the train ticket as I was resigned to losing that cash anyway, but she’s quite good at evading the subject of cash! I know that sounds dodgy, but to be honest I just needed someone to hang about with – I was getting a bit lonely on my own, despite all my chat before I left saying it would be an adventure and that all women should travel on their own for the experience. I know you tried to talk me out of it, in your diplomatic way, but anyway, you and Dad can enjoy saying ‘I told you so’ when I get back. Haha!

We are doing so many amazing things though – the train journey itself is a huge experience, but we’ve been in the Gobi Desert and ridden horses, we’ve been to a nomadic festival, drank sheep’s and horses’ milk (not as bad as you imagine), and now I am in Siberia – mental! I am looking forward to Moscow – I’ll make sure I buy you the biggest Russian doll I can find (and now I have Kate Bush singing ‘Babooshka’ in my head … hope you have too!)

Having a chill-out day today, catching up on emails and reading. Probably just have a quiet dinner tonight and then we’re off on the train again tomorrow.

Rosie emailed me about her job – good news. I think I might look for something different when I get back. I’ve been a bit bored for a while, and I think this trip has opened my mind a bit (don’t worry, I have not gone ‘all NEW AGE’ – I can actually hear Dad saying that right now when you read this out to him).

Love you lots,

Carrie xxxx
