“At one of my concerts. She started showing up every week. Kept flirting with me, buying me drinks. I couldn’t get rid of her.”

“Did you know who she was? That she was Gabrielle Morgan of the Morgan family?” Warren again.

“Not even a little bit. Honestly, she was pretty slutty… the way she was dressed with a low-cut short dress… her hands were always all over me, hell, she let me know I could have her if I wanted.”

“Did you sleep with her?” Warren continued to ask the questions.

“Of course. I wasn’t going to turn her down.” Perry laughed. “She was slutty and she was hot.”

“So, she made all the first moves. Pursued you, I guess you could call it,” Warren said.

“Yes. And then we eventually started dating.” Though he answered Warren, Perry kept his eyes shifting to Gavin’s defensively, as if waiting for another move.

“And you dated for only a short amount of time before you married her?” Warren asked.

“Six months. I wouldn’t call that short.”

“Many would,” Warren shot back quickly. “When did you find out who she was? That her father was James Morgan.”

“The night I first slept with her,” Perry said, unwavering. “But I didn’t know before.”

Gavin gave Perry a long, careful glance. “Did that improve your relationship with her? Maybe switch who was pursuing who?”

“No, as I said. I didn’t care about the money.”

“But you said that she made all the first moves, even getting you into bed was her move. Hell, you said you couldn’t get rid of her. Then, after you find out who her father is, you date for only six months before asking her to marry you?” Warren asked, eyebrows close together, face taut, scrutinizing.

“Look, detective, Gabi was aggressive at first and that turned me off but then I got to know her and fell in love. I loved Adam too. She introduced me to him right away. He was a great kid. Sometimes you just know when things are right.”

“Until they’re not anymore,” Gavin said, which caused a sharp look from Perry.

“You weren’t married long either. Let’s get back to that,” Warren said.

“No.” Perry let out an exhausted huff. “Jesus, shortly after the ceremony she changed.”

“Ah yes, that’s right. You said that you thought she was bipolar. Let me ask, do you have a degree in psychiatry?” Warren pressed.

“No but I do know how to look up signs and symptoms on the internet and read what’s listed by reputable medical sources. I’m not diagnosing her but merely suggesting the possibility. Isn’t it your job, detective, to see if this was correct or not? Maybe to follow up with those with a degree in psychiatry, as you say.” Perry’s snark couldn’t be missed.
