‘Of course you can, my darling.’ Jodie pushed her almost empty coffee towards him and put a teaspoon in his hand.
It had been the right decision, Jodie thought, looking around the table. Flynn hadn’t been sure at the time but she’d finally convinced him that it made sense. He took their son, their beautiful Ben, and she became what she was always supposed to be. Flynn’s mother and Ben’s Ganny.
Her second chance to make it all right.
Looking around the table, she knew it had worked. Jodie and Flynn had agreed on the need for secrecy to protect their son, and Rosie had never been told the truth. Jodie’s name change had been an effective part of the deception – Ben’s birth certificate listed Flynn Douglas and Jo Armstrong as the parents.
The need for secrecy… Jodie had never told Flynn the truth about his father. She’d never told him the truth about what she had done. Some secrets needed to be kept.
Jodie looked around at her boys.
She’d killed to protect them.
She wouldn’t hesitate to do so again.

As ever, a huge thanks to all in Bloodhound Books, especially Betsy Reavley, Fred Freeman, Tara Lyons, Heather Fitt, Morgen Bailey, Ian Skewis and the amazing cover designers.
The writing community is always generous with help and I was fortunate to have had help with some details of the story from the writers Noelle Holten, Anita Waller and Joanna Ward, thank you – any errors are my own!
Support and encouragement as always came from my writing buddies, Jenny O’Brien and Leslie Bratspis to whom I owe thanks and a large glass of wine – some day!
There would be no fun in writing at all, if my books weren’t read – so a big thank you to all the readers, bloggers and reviewers who get the word out there.
Facebook is a marvellous way of interacting with a wide audience and I am lucky to be a member of some wonderful groups – particular thanks go to Beverley Ann Hopper of The Book Lovers; Andi Miller of Skye’s Mum and Books; Dee Groocock of Books on the Positive Side; and Caroline Maston and Samantha Brownley of UKCBC for continuing support.
