“It was my pleasure, but Ms. Montgomery is a done deal, so what is it you need?”

“I’m having problems with the Russian mob, and I’m looking for a way to solve them.”

Nathan laughed and shook his finger at her. “You know all roads don’t lead to me, right?”

“In this case I don’t think you know this woman at all, but she did effectively disappear. There’s either someone out there who is as good as you, or she did it herself, and her technique is spot on.” She took her phone out and handed it over. Finley had given her a picture of Nicola’s cousin, Linda Bender.

“I’ve never seen her,” Nathan said, studying the picture before handing it back.

“Like I said, I didn’t think you had worked with her, but I figured you could point me in the right direction to find her. Like with Dallas, there has to be a crack in the armor that lets someone inside. I need to know what this woman’s crack is before she plugs the hole like I did for Dallas and her sister.” She put her hand up when he started to speak. “I don’t mean her any harm, but she has some answers I need, and I’m not going to get the insight I would from anyone else. If anything, I’d like to do for her what we did for Dallas.”

“If you give me the file, I’ll do what I can and get back to you tomorrow. Will you still be in town?” Nathan asked, and Lou stepped forward and handed over the file.

“We’ll be here, and I appreciate your help.”

“Please, I think you’re a good friend to have, and now that I know I might see your beautiful lady again, I’ll try to make myself useful.” He stood, buttoned his jacket, and bowed his head slightly before walking out.

“That was interesting,” Emma said, glancing at her before looking back at the closed door.

“He’s a little different, but he gets results. If we ever decide to start over with new identities, he’s the go-to guy.”

“You’d give up our name?” Emma leaned in and kissed her. “There’s no chance I’ll ever let you do that.”

“Not to worry, Mrs. Casey. If you want to go hunting, the smartest way to find what you’re aiming for is to get the best hunting dog.”
