“My heart knows you’re not going anywhere. Sometimes my head just gets in the way.” She smiled wider when Kristen pulled her hair harder and kissed her. “It’s a good thing that you’re so patient.”
“I’m not that patient,” Kristen said and laughed. “All I wanted to say was you can trust me. I’m never going to betray you or your family, even if you decide to kick me to the curb.”
“There’s more of a chance of you doing that, honey, than me.” She pulled Kristen closer and licked one of her nipples. “How about we forget what an idiot I am and try to enjoy the rest of my night? I have a feeling tomorrow is going to get a little nuts, and I might get busy.”
“Don’t worry—I have homework, and I know how much you love me saying that.”
Muriel had to laugh at that. “Maybe I should start thinking what a stud I am and pat myself on the back more often.”
Kristen laughed as she pushed Muriel back on the bed. “You are that,” she said as she stretched out on Muriel and sucked in a breath when Muriel squeezed her ass. “Now try to keep your foot out of your mouth and stop talking.”
She rolled them over and kissed Kristen again. “How about I use my mouth for other things?”
“That’s your best idea yet.”
Chapter Fourteen
Cain woke first and squinted at the wall of glass. It was still early, and they’d had a later night than she’d planned, but now it was time to go back to work. She reached for her phone and texted Sanders, wanting an update on Josh. It only took a minute for him to respond, and it was good news. Josh had done well in surgery and had been placed in intensive care for a couple of nights to assure close monitoring.
“How’s Josh?” Emma asked, moving her hand in her usual small circles on Cain’s middle.
“He’s stable, and guess who did his surgery?” That had been the other part of Sanders’s message.
“Do we know a lot of doctors outside our GP guys, pediatricians, and Sam and Ellie?” Emma asked, snuggling close when she did a little rubbing of her own.
“You’ll remember Mark Summers. He put me back together after my shooting, and I work pretty good. It’ll be nice to see him again. I’ll call him later and ask him to limit Josh’s visitors.”
“Are you worried about something? What could he tell the police? It’s not like he was doing anything wrong.” Emma yawned and patted her thigh. “He was meeting with a contractor, for God’s sake.”
