“You aren’t going to talk about what I have in mind?” There was no reason not to give this fucker another chance. If he turned it down, it would give him the excuse to take the asshole out the first opportunity he got.

“Come back with some mutual friends and I’ll be happy to. Until then, good luck. You’re going to need it.” Colin walked away without offering his hand and didn’t look back.

“Goddammit,” he yelled when he watched the big man get into a car parked out front. “You’re going to be sorry you treated me like a punk.” He headed back to his box and took another snort. “I’m going to fucking burn you to the ground.” It was something he was going to add to his list, along with taking Casey down.

Chapter Eighteen

Emma poured four glasses of wine and laughed at the story Abigail was telling them. They’d put all the kids in the den for a slumber party. Her conversation with Cain earlier had left her tense, but the night was starting to chip away at that.

“I’m telling you, the woman couldn’t believe little boys could pee as far as hers did. I had to explain that you had to place the diaper immediately over his wee-wee. She also had a problem saying penis,” Abigail said, laughing as she chopped vegetables for a salad. “People are strange, and then they have children so they can perpetuate their strangeness.”

“Hayden was the worst, but Cain thought it was hilarious. She’s had a little practice now that Billy’s come along.” She set the table as Kristen smiled and stirred something she was cooking on the stove. Emma never realized how much the sisters looked alike despite one being a brunette and the other blond. “You can laugh, girl, but you just wait,” she said, pointing at Kristen.

“I tell Muriel I want kids now, and it’ll put her into a catatonic state. She wastes lots of time every day thinking about the age difference, and I’m not about to whack her over the head about it.”

“I think it’s sweet,” Dallas said, and Kristen threw a towel at her.

“Yes, it’s so sweet when your girlfriend suggests that maybe you should be out sowing your oats. It’s a pain in my ass, but it’s about to become a pain in her ass.”

“Muriel has always been a thinker, but if it helps, the way she looks at you when you don’t realize is telling,” Emma said, handing Kristen a glass. “I doubt anything going through her head has anything to do with you being with anyone else. If it helps, both Dallas and I went through the same thing but for a different reason.”
