She dropped to her knees, taking Cain’s pants with her, and didn’t waste time putting her mouth on her. Cain’s knees bent a little, but she stayed on her feet as Emma sucked her in and didn’t let up on the pressure. They both moaned when Cain put her hand at the back of her head, and Emma knew from the way Cain flexed her thigh muscles that she was coming.

“Damn, that was way too fast.” Cain stepped out of her pants and kicked them aside. “I’ll pay you back for that before we get interrupted.”

“What does that mean?” She wrapped her legs around Cain’s waist and pressed their lips together. She lay back on the bed when Cain put her down and pulled her jeans off as if in a hurry to do so.

“There’s about to be a spectacular display of my weakened position in town, and I’m sure either Merrick, Katlin, or someone else is going to be banging on the door in about thirty minutes.” Cain climbed in after her and rested her weight on her elbow.

“I’d ask what the hell you’re talking about, but I don’t care at this moment.” There was nothing on her mind when Cain’s hand came to rest between her legs. She arched up into her when Cain put her fingers in easily. She’d been wet for a while as she’d been watching Cain downstairs no matter who she was talking to. “Yes,” she said as the end came as fast as Cain’s had.

“Is the plan you have in mind going to keep us from sleeping in tomorrow?” she asked as she put her head under Cain’s chin. “I need you alone for as long as I can get you.”

Their time was up when she heard the knock. Emma wanted to curse, but going through the steps of necessary evils got them to the ultimate goal of peace. When those steps interrupted intimate moments like this, it was hard to remember the greater good.

“Give me a minute, lass.”

Katlin was the one who’d come to the door, and Emma heard her talking for only a minute before Cain closed the door. “What happened?” she asked when Cain sat on the bed.

“Emma’s, the pub, and the office were all shot up. It’ll be seen as a move to make me come back to town and hit back.” Cain spoke calmly, but the news didn’t really call for calm.

“You’re going back?” She gripped the sheet at the thought of Cain going back without her. When things were going great, it ramped up her fear that there’d be a price to pay. She’d give anything but Cain. That was unacceptable.
