They took plenty of pictures before heading back out and sitting through the speeches and the cutting of the cake. Vincent’s people did a great job, and Cain didn’t mind them wandering around the first floor of the house. All of them knew doing any favors for the feds or betraying Vincent’s trust would lead to an employee review they’d never forget.
Cain enjoyed watching Hannah dance with Victoria, and Hayden and Sadie kept an eye on Liam. Life wasn’t all about work and figuring out puzzles, but about days like this when you could sit and enjoy the rewards all the work brought. She had a family she was proud of, and there was nothing that would change her opinion of that.
“What does a girl have to do to get someone to ask her to dance?” Emma stood behind her with her hands on her shoulders, and her soft voice was enough to make her want to carry her inside.
“I thought the coven was over there, planning out the rest of Remi’s life. Or is it Muriel who’s next on y’all’s hit list?” She grinned.
“Coven?” Emma bit her earlobe. “You’re in rare form tonight.”
“I’m joking, lass.” She stood and bowed over Emma’s hand. “Would you do me the honor of this dance, bewitching lady?”
“I’m telling the bar to cut you off if you’re getting this cheesy, but I’d love to dance.” Emma allowed herself to be pulled in.
“This has been a wonderful night. You and Dallas did a great job.”
“The best night is still the night I got you to say yes, but Remi and Dallas look happy. Are you ready to plan two more weddings?” Emma nodded at Ramon and Marianna, glad to see Remi’s mother appeared as ecstatic as the bride.
“That is one of my favorite memories, but you’ve given me plenty to daydream about. Watching our children being born, sharing my days with you, and the top of that list is the day I met you. I’ve always thought all those romance novels were pure fantasy when they talked about being thunderstruck at the sight of someone.” Cain bent her head and kissed Emma gently. “But then I saw you.”
“I don’t say this often enough, but thank you for the life you’ve given me, my love. I can’t imagine what my life would be if I’d never taken the chance to come here—I know I’d crave you even if I had no idea who you were.” Emma dabbed at her eyes, but Cain knew they were happy tears.
