“Good, then let’s finish here, and we’ll take a ride later.” She pushed her plate aside and glanced at Remi. “Has Brandi had any problems?”
“There’s been someone chatting up her girls about a better opportunity, but no concrete promises have been made,” Remi said. “I added some muscle to the guys you left over there.”
“Good. Brandi and the people who work for her deserve to be left alone.”
They finished dinner and talked about business and the casino until the call came from Dino’s crew. He was about to drive them back to the office when her cell rang again. Something had to have happened for Emma to call twice. “Lass?”
“Hey, I wanted you to know that Nathan called and needs to talk to you. Don’t worry, he followed all of Fin’s directions, but he wouldn’t tell me what he found. He did tell me he misses me,” Emma said.
“Nathan’s about to swap all those fancy clothes for a hospital gown,” she said as Emma gave her the number. “Thanks, and this might bring me back sooner than I planned.”
“I can’t complain about that, and if it does, I owe Nathan a kiss.”
“Let’s not make it so I have to kill the little guy. He might be handy in the future.” She promised to call as soon as she talked to Nathan.
“Want us to take care of this guy you’ve got waiting?” Remi asked. “Sounds like something might’ve panned out.”
She could trust them to get the information she wanted. “Would you mind? If Nathan found Linda Bender where he thought she was, we need to head back as soon as we can.”
Remi took Mano and Dino and called to make sure the plane was ready to fly whenever they were done.
“Nathan,” she said when he answered. “Thanks for getting back to me so fast.”
“I think speed is the best thing in this case, Cain.” Nathan sounded echoey, and it made her pause.
“Where are you?” If this little guy had double-crossed her, she was going to bury him in one of his loud suits.
“Sorry, I’m in my workroom, and it makes the reception sound funny. If you like I can come to you and give you this in person, but I think someone else is getting close to the woman you want.” Nathan didn’t seem like the type to turn, but you never knew what people were capable of until they were cornered.
“I do want to meet, but give me a location and a name. If she’s in danger, it’s time to pick her up and offer her some help.”
