They took the four-wheelers Jerry used to round up the herd with trailers hauling feed, in case her watchers could see them. The way they were dressed and what they were doing should throw them off long enough to allow them to drive away from the adjacent farm.
Remi’s plane was waiting at a private airstrip, and they strategized on the way home. Remi and Simon were going to pay Brandi Parrish a visit and check if she’d had any problems. She and Lou would deal with Josh, and they’d all make sure their people were ready for another attack that probably wasn’t far off. And they were all going to start getting answers.
“Call me if you have any problems, and I’ll meet you later,” Remi said as they came to a stop in their private hangar.
“You do the same.”
The ride back to Muriel’s place was quiet and free of watchers. Silence was at times deafening when it came because it was so rare, but it gave her a chance to think. Her family was safe for now, she was free to do what she had to, but that part of her that belonged to Emma craved her presence. Maybe she was getting soft, but she doubted anyone would tell her that to her face.
When they arrived, Dino gave them both a hug and an update on Josh.
“He’s talking, but it’s going to be some time before he’s back behind the bar. That shot nicked his liver, so the doctor said not to rush getting back to work. Doc said to make sure you get that across to Josh. He’s already chomping to get back and oversee the reno,” Dino said as he adjusted the guns he wore in his shoulder holster. “I told him you’d want to talk to him about what happened, but I found the guy who didn’t get shot.”
“And?” she asked as she sent Emma a quick text to let her know she’d arrived.
“I got some of the guys watching him, and he’s been spending money he shouldn’t have.”
“Pick him up right now, but tell them to be invisible about it when they do. Deliver him to the office, and we’ll have a chat with him later.” She motioned to the back door, and Dino handed Lou a set of keys. “Good job, Dino. There’ll be a bonus for everything you took care of while we were gone.”
