‘What the fuck is that supposed to mean?’ he barked, barely able to control his anger.
‘It means, you prick, that I expect you to contribute to his upkeep. Babies are expensive, you know.’
Suddenly, he felt sorry for the little bastard, having a mother like that, who saw him as nothing more than a means to make some easy money.
‘And if I don’t?’
She laughed again. ‘Then I’ll ask your wife for the money instead. I’m sure she’ll pay up. She seems decent like that.’
She stood there, hand on her hip, grinning at him, like she’d just won a raffle and he was first prize. She was clearly taking great delight in holding something over him. Who did this bitch think she was? Coming into his place of work and threatening him. Did she have any idea who she was fucking with?
‘Write down your address. I’ll call round later, and we’ll sort something out.’ He almost spat the words at her.
‘Don’t you want to see him?’ she smirked.
‘Later!’ he growled, his tone betraying the calm facade he was trying to present.
‘I won’t be home until seven,’ she told him with a smirk, swaying her hips as she walked out of the sweltering office.
Nathan threw his pen through the open office door. ‘Where is my fucking drink?’ he shouted into the now-empty hallway.
Chapter Nineteen
Sandra cursed under her breath as she pulled the heavy pram up the stairs to the fifth floor of the block of flats. The lift was broken again. She hated living in this dump, but hopefully soon she wouldn’t have to. Nathan was obviously raking it in and it wouldn’t be any hardship for him to support her and little Eddie too. His wife was pregnant and from what she’d heard, Nathan was over the moon about it. She was sure as soon as he got to know Eddie, he’d fall in love with him too, just like she had. Sandra had enjoyed seeing the look of shock on Nathan’s face when she told him. It served him right after the way he’d treated her. Karma was a bitch.
Eddie was fast asleep, so she’d have time for a quick freshen up before Nathan arrived. She wanted to look her best and remind him just what he was missing. Despite her best intentions to despise him, and regardless of the way he treated her, she thought that maybe having his baby would make him see her differently. She hoped they could come to some sort of mutual agreement, something that would benefit them both.
Opening the door to the tiny flat, Sandra left Eddie asleep in his pram in the hall. She walked into the living room and almost fainted when she saw Nathan in there, waiting for her. He was reading a newspaper and sitting there like he owned the place.
