My kids, the Best Kids: Jones and Al, I pray this book, if you read it one day, will give you peace in your hearts and the confidence to know you are so loved no matter what.

My mom, Deb Jenkins; sister, Cassie Canestrini; and best friends, Meg Turton and Cate Unruh, who all read this story before anyone else and told me that even though it hurt to write and hurt worse to read, it was important and necessary and would make a difference one day.

The Bandrowski family. I’m not even sure where you all are living these days, but there was a time many years ago when I was a poor college kid without a place to stay and you opened your home and your family to me. I’ve often thought about that month under your roof where I was shown firsthand a loving, Christian family. I don’t know that I can fully express the impact that time had on me. I hope if I’m ever faced with the same situation one day, I will choose to be as generous as you were to me.

The ones who’ve done it right: the pastors, pastors’ wives, youth group leaders, camp counselors, worship leaders, church families, Bible study leaders, song writers, artists, authors, the ones who have loved with wild abandon and fierce determination—who looked at a face and saw only a soul worth their time and nothing else—to all of you, THANK YOU. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

To Jesus. It feels flippant to thank you for helping me to write a book, so I won’t do that, even if I feel gratitude deep in my bones. Instead, I’ll thank you for never, ever letting go of me.
