  41. LET’S STAY IN TOUCH!

I found the address that I had jotted down and stared up at the imposing building. It was a tall, glass structure. I gazed up at the skyscraper for a while, trying to envision spending forty-plus hours a week here, but I just couldn’t imagine it.

Once inside, I checked the directory and found that Davis Industries was housed on the top floor. A kind looking older gentleman in a distinguished gray suit held the elevator door open for me, so I scurried in before I could lose my nerve. My elevator companion nodded a quick goodbye to me before exiting on a mid-level floor, leaving me to ride the rest of the way to the top of the building alone.

The back wall of the elevator was a giant mirror, so I used the time to fluff my hair and do a quick check of my teeth to make sure there wasn’t anything stuck in them. As I bared my teeth at my reflection, I wondered if there were security cameras in use on this elevator. If so, the security guard was probably having a good laugh at me cheesing at myself. If not, maybe I could talk Sam into screwing me in here later. I had never before tried sex in an elevator, but Sam could make anything hot.

I pictured us riding down to the ground level after having quick and dirty standing-up sex in the stopped elevator. Maybe we would pick up other passengers along the way. They would be wondering why the elevator had taken so long to get to them today. Sam and I would hold hands and slyly grin at each other, silently acknowledging our naughty secret.

I shook my head, trying to clear away my wanton thoughts, and reminded myself that I was supposed to be mad at Sam. If there was a security guard watching a video feed of this elevator, I hoped that he couldn’t read my thoughts by looking at my face.

Finally, the elevator reached the top floor. The doors slid open to reveal a posh, modern reception area. A wall of water rippled down a glass partition behind the front desk. I smiled at the pretty receptionist, knowing that she was my ticket inside.

After glancing at her nameplate, I said, “Hi Janine. My name is Abby.” I paused and was irrationally disappointed to not see any form of recognition flicker in her green eyes. Had I honestly expected Sam to tell his whole office about me? I shook off the negativity and continued confidently. “I’m here to see Sam.”

Janine furrowed her brow at her computer screen before gazing back at me, all business. “Do you have an appointment with Mr. Davis?”

“No, but I just need a minute with him.”
