  41. LET’S STAY IN TOUCH!

Somehow, Seth could always make me feel better. When our laughter subsided, I touched his shoulder and said, “You’re an amazing friend, Seth Davis.”

He nodded, smiling sadly, before saying, “A person would have to blind, deaf, and dumb not to see the sparks that were sizzling between you and my brother. He really cares about you, Ab. Maybe the two of you can make it work.”

“If I’m willing to ignore all of women he keeps on the side, right?”

“Maybe you can change him,” Seth tried.

“Yeah, and if I believe that, you have a bridge to sell me in Arizona, right?” I playfully nudged his shoulder, and he started the Jeep.

“Ready to get out of here?” he asked me.

“You read my mind, Mr. Davis.” I smiled at him. Relief swept over me as I watched the Davis manor shrink in the rearview mirror.

Courtney was in the living room and dressed, for the first time all week, when we got home. “How did it go?” She posed the question the instant we walked in the door.

“Surprisingly well,” I joked, which made Seth and me start laughing again. At Court’s perplexed look, I managed to say, “It was so awful,” before I burst into tears.

“Oh, Sweetie.” She wrapped her arms around me.

“Well, I gotta get in on this,” Seth said as he engulfed both of us in his strong embrace. We ended up all laughing as Seth squeezed us tighter and tighter.

“Let go. You’re squeezing Preggo too hard, you big lug.” Court swatted playfully at Seth as he released us.

“You going back to work tomorrow?” I broached the subject tentatively with Court.

“Yes, I was thinking that the three of us should go to Joe’s for girls’ night.” She paused to smile at Seth, confirming that he was included, before continuing. “It might be a good chance for me to talk to Joe and meet Jonah before going back to work tomorrow.”

Seth beamed. “I knew that if I stuck around long enough, you would eventually consider me to be one of the girls.” On his way out the door, he jumped up and clacked his heels together, like he was the happiest man on earth.

Court and I shook our heads at him, both of us smiling, as he yelled back at us, “See you there at six.”

“It’s unbelievable that a man that handsome can be such a dork,” Court said, right after Seth closed the front door behind him.

“Yes, but I think he’s our dork.” We grinned at each other. Both of us were glad to have Seth in our lives.

Sure as punch, Seth was already at our booth with our drinks ordered when we arrived at Joe’s that night. He volunteered us to watch Jonah, so Court and Joe could go in the back to talk.
