Bo’s stomach tightened. Though his custody dispute with the Hendersons was of public record, he was stunned that Finn Pusser was aware of the case. Bo looked at the time displayed on the top of his phone: 11:30 a.m. He was supposed to meet his banker at noon to go over the terms of the loan he was about to make Booker T., but that would have to wait. Though he wanted to tell Finn to go to hell, he squelched his anger. “I’ll be there,” he finally said, and the mobile clicked dead in his hand.
Bo took a deep breath and exhaled, sticking the phone back in his pocket. He turned back toward the faded brick façade of the sheriff’s department building, which housed the jail and Hank’s office. He again thought of reporting Finn Pusser to the authorities. He could’ve killed us last night, Bo thought. And now he’s blackmailing me.
But as quickly as the idea popped into his mind, he dismissed it. Blackmail or no, Bo and Booker T. had trespassed on private property last night, and it sounded like Booker T. had been trespassing a lot lately. Bo didn’t want to make any more trouble for his cousin. Also, after the events of this morning, he wasn’t sure he could trust the sheriff’s office.
And he relished the opportunity to have an audience with Michael Zannick.
Bo walked briskly toward his car, thinking of the mysterious stranger who had saved his and Booker T.’s lives the night before. He hadn’t had much time to contemplate their rescuer, but like his cousin, he was grateful. He was also curious. Had someone been following him yesterday? Or perhaps tailing Booker T.? Or maybe the hero was trying to get back at Finn?
He flung the car door open. All he had were questions, and the answers would have to wait. For now, Bo had other fish to fry.
Seconds later, he was on the road headed toward Highway 64.

At 11:55 a.m., Bo pulled into the gravel lot of the Sundowners Club. At this time of day, there were only two other cars in the area, both of them pickup trucks. Bo undid the glove compartment and snatched his Glock out, then stuffed the weapon down the front of his pants.
