There could also, of course, be a nonenvironmentalistic explanation along the lines that the woman recognizes her sex as weaker, and, in this sense, is irritated not only with it, but, perhaps more cruelly, more irrationally, with herself as well, as a member of that weaker, intimidatable group. The answer here, of course, lies in her objective acceptance of this weakness, and, when sexually aroused, in her surrendering of herself, as a woman, to her master. Resentment of the childishness, pettiness and vanity of many females, of course, would seem warranted; such childishness, pettiness and vanity, of course, might be largely the results of conditioning; there is no particular reason, as far as I can tell, why so many women should be vain, petty and childish. There are too many women who are not this way for these traits to be regarded as “feminine.” On the other hand, I think it is true, for better or worse, that pettiness, childishness, and vanity in a woman can be sexually stimulating to a male; they make the female seem inferior and thus tend to augment his own ego conception (he overlooks naturally, rationally, happily, his own pettiness, childishness and vanity; they are all right) and, more importantly, tend to trigger his sexual aggressiveness. (Weakness in a woman is sexually stimulating to the male; indeed, perhaps evolution has bred certain weaknesses into women, they being more often sought as mates. Strong women make fine nurses and excellent mothers, but they are not much fun to go to bed with. The trick here, of course, is that a woman who can be strong out of bed often, in bed, her glands secreting, helplessly, becomes weak.
At this point three cheers for biology are in order. Consider them given. To make strong women weak in bed, of course, is a pleasure. To conquer her, if she is really conquered, if she is turned into a helpless, sucking, loving, whimpering, moist-eyed bitch, is a victory. Strength in women tends to vary inversely with the angle of their backbone to the perpendicular. There is no reason a woman who is strong and independent on her feet cannot in bed, in the arms of a dominant male, in the hours of love, hot and helpless, kissing, yielding, touching, be reduced to total slavery. This is one reason for putting a woman in a dog collar. It makes her clearly an object of exploitation. It makes her role clear, that of slave. Further, it generates aggressive sexual behavior on the part of the male. She is his, to be had. In bed man wishes to be dominant; no woman in a collar can be dominant. Collar the strong woman; teach her she is a female. “Why did you make me yield to you like that, as a helpless slave?” “It pleased me.” “I love you.”) The answer to what men tend to see in empty-headed little women is partly this: quarry. Furthermore, aggressive sexual behavior in a male tends, often, to produce, it seems biologically, submission behavior in a female. For example, she yields in your arms to your kiss. She may even, for no apparently good reason, feel a thrill of fear. Does she tremble? It is as ancient as the caves.
