These considerations also explain, incidentally, why aggressive women are fond of a sexual position in which the male lies upon his back and she kneels across his body. Thus she seems to be dominant. Her dominance, of course, is a pseudo-dominance. It is a dominance belied by her slighter body. In her heart she knows he could, if he wished, seize her and throw her to her back beneath him. This is, however, an interesting position, which can be quite enjoyable for both the male and female. It is particularly to be recommended to women who have a tendency to be too masochistic. It is good for their expansion and pride in themselves as persons. Too, many women find this position very exciting. One might add here that maximum penetration is effected in this position, and the possibility of pregnancy maximized. Accordingly, couples desiring conception might find it instrumentally useful as well as sexually stimulating. On the other hand, a man might not wish to impregnate his wife while lying in this position. When his child is conceived he might rather prefer that it is he who has her, rather than she who has him. We are all symbol-using animals. A man who loves his wife, of course, must be prepared to be had, as well as to have. He must be as willing to belong to her upon occasion as she is to belong to him.

Square sex then is the form of sex most recommended by current intellectuals with accepted psychiatric credentials. It is sex as practiced by educated, informed individuals. Those in the “know” do it this way, or ways. On the other hand, square sex, pleasant as it may be, great as it is, is still pretty much a matter of applied mechanics. There is a great deal more to sex, at least in possibility, than knowing the right places to rub. It is a bit too anatomical in its orientation. One could be quite adept in it without possessing an upper brain. If one has an upper brain, and human beings do, then presumably one might be tempted to use it.
