All charges were dropped against Dr. Joseph Quinn this week, as he and the family of Rita Stone reached a private settlement. Five months ago, following what Dr. Quinn himself referred to as a massively botched surgery, Rita Stone died on Dr. Quinns operating table. According to Albert Stone, the husband, Quinn was borderline antagonistic when he delivered the news to the family. This resulted in a verbal argument and then an assault in which Dr. Quinn threw three punches, one of which dislocated Mr. Stones jaw. It was later discovered that Dr. Quinn had been working on very little sleep and taking caffeine pills and supplements to stay awake, as he was dealing with the recent loss of his wife, who had passed away rather suddenly from a diagnosis of Crigler-Najjar Syndromea potentially fatal disease of the liver. Later reports indicated that Dr. Quinn had his medical license revoked and that it could have been part of the agreed upon settlement.

As the situation unfolded in the months following the assault, it also came to light that Dr. Quinn had been seeing a psychiatrist. Quinn later revealed that hed needed to take an entire month off of work after his wifes passing, trying to get back into the right mental state to perform surgeries. It was tormenting me, Quinn stated, that wed made calls to get her on a transplant list, but she died before her name was even placed on it.

Rachel looked away from the article. There was another paragraph, but she doubted anything it had to say was going to hit as hard as the last comment shed read. Jack, wide eyed and clearly feeling as if they were on the brink of a breakthrough, looked back to the police record in front of him.

This is a report of the assault. Quinn stated that he, and I quote, sort of blacked out for a moment when speaking with the Stone family. The husband got in my face, understandably angry, and I just snapped.

He knew loss, too, Rachel said. As an agent, it was never a good thing to feel one certain way about a potential suspect, but she felt incredibly sad for Joseph Quinn in that moment.

As she thought on this for a moment, she allowed herself a moment to rest. Shed become something of an expert at catching quick cat naps and somehow waking herself up with some sort of internal alarm. She dozed lightly for a moment, her mind never too far away from the case. She found herself thinking of Joseph Quinns story and found herself nearly sympathizing with him. To lose someone so suddenly, there was no sense in trying to move on with life as usual.

Funny you cant figure that out about your own family, she thought. How are they going to pick up and continue after youre dead just because youre stubborn and wont look into treatment options?
