We clearly dont either, Rachel said. But as of right now, all we know is that they had doctors in common, and apparently liver issues.

Is there any chance its a coincidence? Fenton asked.

You learn pretty quickly in our line of work that coincidences arent really a thing, Jack said.

Dr. Fenton, do you recall the mood Mr. Webber was in the last time you saw him?

Not specifically, he said, clearly doing his best to think back. His eyes were wandering about the room, his hands clasped in front of him. I mean, Mr. Webber was always sort of upbeat, despite his diagnosis. Always cracking jokes and doing his best to smile. I dont recall anything different about the last time I saw him.

And was the one consult the only time you ever saw Maria Ramirez?

Yes.

And you said you didnt see her case as quite bad enough to require a specialist, right?

Yes. At worst, I thought she may have a case of fatty liver disease. Its still a rather serious condition if not treated correctly, but Dr. Ailsworth would have been her best bet. If it progressed even worse, she would have likely come back to me. Its happened many times in the past, where a liver issue presents itself as something rather harmless, so I send the patient elsewhere only to have them come back to me several months later if the issue has gotten worse.

Do you not have security cameras outside? Jack asked.

We only have them in the back, where the deliveries of medical supplies are made. There isnt one out frontnothing that covers the parking lot. Though, I suppose thats something to change as soon as possible.

Would you mind if we spoke to your staff on our way out? Rachel asked.

Of course not. Help yourself. And please…let me know if there is anything else I can do.

Theres currently a request for medical record access, Rachel asked. Given the diagnosis of each patient, do you think those records might be worth looking into?

I honestly dont know. I wouldnt think so. I just dont know why anyone would target people based on liver maladies. It seems odd.

Youre not wrong about that, Rachel said as she and Jack took their leave. Thanks again, Dr. Fenton.

They exited his office, Jack pulling the door closed behind him. After taking a few steps away from the office, Jack peered down the hall, putting his hands on his hips. I dont think were going to find anything. If the police already came through here and found nothing…

Yeah, but we have to at least try.

Oh, I know. But I had to go ahead and get the negativity out. What did you think of Fenton? Think he was really that shocked?

Yeah. He looked taken off guard for sure.
