‘Does it?’ He rolls back his shoulders then moves his head from side to side, stretching out the muscles in his neck. ‘I need to get a massage when this is over. I don’t know if it’s all the sitting around or the white-water rafting but—’

‘I think Geraldine’s a journalist.’

‘She’s not. I already—’

‘She is and she’s writing a piece on us, on you. She’s been prodding Joy for information. And god knows who else. I’m pretty certain she’s going to sensationalise what happened this morning, claim we were negligent again.’

Tom slumps forward and rests his head in his hands. ‘I knew we shouldn’t have done this. I knew it. For fuck’s sake, Kate, I told you.’

‘Well we can’t change that. What’s done is done. What’s important now is stopping her, minimising the damage. We need to get some dirt on her – you need to get some dirt on her. Otherwise you’ll be crucified in the press.’ She pauses. ‘Why are you shaking your head?’

He looks up at her. ‘I’m not the one she’s gunning for. She told me that you tried to kill her this morning. I thought she was being dramatic but if you’re right, and she is a journalist …’ He sighs. ‘If anyone’s getting crucified here Kate, it’s you.’
