The call came in less than five minutes ago from a cop in the area, checking over parking spots for tickets. We cant yet confirm that its a body, but the cop on the scene said hes quite sure he also heard a brief shout or scream of some kind before the splash.

Thank you, Officer Carlisle. Well meet you there as soon as possible. Can you make a call to have officers stationed at both ends of the bridge until we get there?

Already done it.

Rachel ended the call and typed High Bridge into her GPS. Her heart surged with dread and adrenaline as the robotic voice told them where to go. Another body. Another person dead. And if she was being honest with herself, she was starting to feel absolutely bone-tired.

Even worse, they still had no leads…just a robotic voice directing them around a city she was wholly unfamiliar with. It was a different experience to hear that voice and not be the one driving, but she was thankful for it. She stared ahead into the night, any thoughts of getting some rest now far from her mind, as Jack followed the GPS into Harlem.

***

There was very clearly a body floating face down in the Harlem River. Rachel could see it from the mouth of the bridge as nothing more than a speck of white and dark blue clothing, and a muddled mess of wet hair. The body was bobbing lazily, not yet carried any real distance from the bridge. She and Jack raced up over the bridge to where several members of the NYPD were already huddled together. Flashlight beams hovered in the darkness, illuminating faces and feet alike. A few officers were looking down with great interest from where it appeared the man had jumped from.

Anything of note yet? Rachel asked.

Well, one of the cops said, its a tough call because its night, but there appears to be just the slightest amount of blood right here along the side of the bridge. He aimed his flashlight over the side and pointed it out. Sure enough, there was a fresh smear of blood along the steel side. He had been right in that it wasnt much at all. Maybe just enough to come from a head that accidentally struck the side on the way down.

Rachel considered this for a moment and then looked to Jack. If someone is jumping off a bridge, theyd get decent distance, right? At least a few feet? No way in hell theyre going to hit their head on the side. Now, if they were pushed…

She left the thought unfounded as Jack thought it over. No one was found on the scene after the initial call?
