  39. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

"Cya around."

Dullahan turned me around with fierce eyes blazing as he scanned my whole body. He swallowed thickly, his thumbs brushing my arms before he finally dropped his hold on me and stepped back.

He seemed concerned I was alright. Which was rich shit from a man using me as a shield.

“The great Dullahan cowering from a gun behind the back of a leprechaun. Why the hell anyone is afraid of you is beyond me,” I spat out, crossing my arms. He raised an eyebrow and smirked.

“Remi’s gun is the only one of its kind. Forged by fae, spelled by witches, and bullets cursed by demons. A bullet from that gun kills any and everything, even immortals. Well, anything but him.”

“And they always fly true?” I asked.

“No, he’s just one hell of a shot. Sorry, lassie, the only way for me to keep breathing was using your luck.”

“I thought you nullified my luck,” I said accusingly. Dullahan stretched against the side of the elevator and his head nearly came up to the ceiling. I swallowed thickly. He’d made this moderately-sized space feel overcrowded.

“Your luck is still there, just not when it comes to me. You avoiding being shot by someone else has nothing to do with me. You trying to break a lock I’ve put in place? That deals with me.” He crossed his arms over his wide chest and smirked down at me. I thought about all the situations with him.

“Stop trying to think so hard. Your face will get stuck all scrunched up like that.”

I snapped my head up and glared at him. It appeared I entertained Dullahan.

“Why was he shooting at me?” I asked. His tongue dragged across his bottom lip as he looked at the corner of the elevator. “Well?” I insisted. His grass-green eyes settled back on me.

When Dullahan looked at me, I felt more alive. I wasn’t sure if it was anger, hate, thrill, or something else but having Dullahan’s attention made me breathe faster and stand straighter. I thought of that moment in the room when Lorcan’s powers thickened the air. The adoration that had warmed Dullahan all over, his strong arms wrapping around me, the quick admission that he wanted to protect me of all things.

The door dinged, opening to the penthouse again. Dullahan snatched my arm as I attempted to leap out and flee. He dragged me to a room I hadn’t previously seen and for a good reason. My eyes widened as I took in my picture everywhere.

At least the eyes weren’t crossed out nor the faces burnt off. Small victories.

Lorcan and Viktor were in here. They shot up from their chairs immediately when we entered. They both prowled close, like competing wild cats circling prey they both wanted.

“Check the hit list,” Dullahan grumbled before handing me off to Viktor and stomping off. I heard him lock the door behind him after he left. I looked at the two other men. Viktor was holding my arm since Dullahan had practically forced him. Lorcan stood barely two feet away and seemed to be shifting closer. Both of them had eyes over every part of me. The hairs on my arms started to stand on edge and I huffed.
