  39. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

“Jaysus,” Dullahan sighed, running his hands through his hair. He smelled thickly of whiskey, I realized, and was swaying a little on his feet.

Cayenne and sugary syrup scents filled the air around the same time I started to think I wanted to climb Dullahan and see if everything was to scale. I gasped, reaching for the Irish giant. He looked down at me with soft eyes, his hand coming up to stroke my face gently.

"Christ, you're beautiful," he said, looking at me with adoration. He pulled me closer, wrapping his strong protective arms around me. "I want to take care of you," he murmured as his knuckles brushed my cheek.

Then he slammed his eyes shut and groaned in irritation.

“Lorcan,” he snapped, brushing me off and stomping towards the incubus. The smell evaporated from the room. Lorcan smiled at me as Dullahan zipped him up. Then he gave a wink and scant seconds later the tattoos and inky eyes bled away until he looked mostly human—if it weren’t for the red hair and eyes. Curiously, his horns stayed out.

The giant Irishman stood up, looming over the incubus who looked vaguely irritated on his knees.

“If I let you off the chains, will you be good?” Dullahan asked him. The cat snorted and I looked over at it. He tried to mouth something silently to me but it didn’t have human lips. How was I supposed to understand a cat lip talking to me without lips?

This was beginning to feel like a fever dream. The cat smiled, seeming to think I was now in on whatever joke it mouthed. The expression was mildly terrifying.

“Yes sir,” Lorcan grumbled, his eyes finding me. I held his red gaze, unsure of what was going on in his head. I’d pay good money to know. At this point, I couldn’t tell if he wanted me gone, or wanted me to be a permanent fixture on his cock. I wasn’t sure which one of those I wanted either. Maybe I could convince him to ditch these two after I got out of here.

While Dullahan undid the chains, I turned around and tried the door. It was still locked. I sighed as I looked at the knob. A moment later Dullahan gently pushed me away from the door and let Lorcan escape.

“Now,” Dullahan growled after the door closed. I backed up a step as he turned around with a fierce look on his face. He started to smile and I watched the scars at his mouth begin to unspool like they had never been attached. His smile gaped open far too wide and his eyelids were nearly missing as he stared at the cat.

“Fuck,” I hissed, falling over my coat on the floor as I backed away.

“Oh I’m so scared, D,” the cat said. “Practically shaking,” he said with sarcasm. Dullahan stomped towards the bed and the cat had enough sense to leap off the bed as Dullahan tried to dive after it. I crawled over to the bed while they banged around the room, snatching up my panties and shimmying them back on. A lamp fell over and busted, a cat screeched.
