I pulled, leaned, and tugged as quickly as I could. I wasn’t sure what would be worse, hitting the eighteen-wheeler going one hundred miles per hour or landing on my side with no helmet. I leaned over anyway, there wasn’t time to consider things like that.
The bike leaned down, mere inches separating the street and its side. Metal grated and sparked against the street as I slid. I grit my teeth and held the handles with white-knuckle force.
I went up underneath the truck. The hot undercarriage of the massive vehicle belched hot breath on my face. Oily pipes glared down at me.
A moment later the truck’s underbelly disappeared and a cloudless sky filled my view. I jerked the bike back upright. I’d just slid under the damn thing without injury. I gasped, shocked I’d just pulled that off. My legs flew out to steady the bike as it came to a stop. My eyes were wide as I thanked Lady Luck.
My head swiveled behind me. The semi-truck kept sliding right through the intersection until the damn black SUV appeared from behind it. Viktor was leaning out a back window. His mouth was spread wide in excitement and his sunglasses were pushed up on his head, his golden eyes scanning me from head to toe.
His body was clearly fit underneath his expensive suit and I could see the ease at which he hung out the window. His shining eyes dragged over me in something akin to desire. At that moment, I didn’t know what to make of that. Did he want to kill me or fuck me?
Damn, he really was my type. He’d be one hell of a ride.
I turned forward and pulled my legs in. When I twisted the throttle, the bike growled and darted forward. It was a long stretch of street in front of me on a busy road. Cars were interspersed but not packed too tightly. I looked up towards the line of red lights, watching them flash green one by one. I smirked and I weaved between the cars, racing through the green lights as the throbbing intensity of the Strip sparkled and strobed against the metal of my bike. I didn’t look back as I left the SUV in my dust.
I was ready to call it a night and leave the thrill of being chased behind. I weaved and sped all the way back to my highrise. Every light twinkled to green as I raced towards them until finally, I neared my building—a monstrosity that towered over the city. It was the second tallest building, a golden tower jutting up in the sky. The wealthiest of the wealthy lived here and me? Well, I lived at the very top.
I eased up, letting my speed dwindle. The excitement and adrenaline were leaking out of me like a popped balloon. In a few moments, I’d be an exhausted mess. Even my bones would plead for rest.
My mind drifted back to what just happened and I smiled wide. Tonight had been a raging success. Not only did I make more than I ever had in a single night, but I had the experience of a lifetime. Chased by the crime bosses of sin city! Who could say that? I could.
