  39. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Dullahan’s mouth was split open across his entire face, from ear to ear. His eyes blazed with a wild, sadistic excitement as his black hair flapped in the wind. I looked down at the street and saw ghostly hands rising and falling like smoke, outstretched fingers reaching towards him. The souls of the dead, clawing at him—Hell on his heels.

“Lacey,” he hissed from his wretched mouth. It was some ancient death magic. I felt it curling around my heart, hugging it in blackness. A sharp pain exploded in my chest, making me gasp.

There was no escaping him.

Gasping for breath, I slowed my bike until it crashed to its side near an alley. I leapt up and took off on foot because the urge to escape him was too powerful to fight. I looked behind me as I stumbled, rubbing my chest.

Dullahan stopped his bike, kicked the stand down, and then came stomping after me. Every step of his was three of mine—long strides on leather boots that stomped so loudly it was the only thing I could hear. I tripped and fell to the ground.

The feeling in my chest evaporated and I took a big gulp of air. When I scrambled up, a large hand wrapped around my arm.

“No!” I cried out, my body and mind rebelling at his closeness. I pulled at his wrist, too terrified to look at him directly. To see if maybe he’d even lost his head.

“Stop being a brat,” I heard his grumpy voice grumble as I uselessly fought. I whipped my head around and saw he looked normal again.

“A brat! You’re kidnapping me!” I said in outrage. The alley shielded us from gawkers. Dullahan rolled his eyes at me and my mouth popped open.

“We just need your luck. Now be a good little leprechaun and respect your elders,” he said with a smirk that was not charming. At all. Especially with the stubble along his jaw and the amused sparkle in his eyes.

Why did I always find myself attracted to the worst men? Particularly, the ones trying to kill and kidnap me. My lifelong luck certainly gave me a twisted sort of libido.

“You sure have a lot of nerve talking like that to someone you’re kidnapping. And, you sent an incubus after me,” I hissed, my cheeks flaming as I recalled him watching very closely as Lorcan slid his fingers into me hard and fast.

Dullahan laughed at me. He laughed. My kidnapper who had sent an incubus demon on me was laughing about it all!

“What the fuck!” I snapped in the alley, at a loss for how angry this man could make me.

“You looked to be enjoying yourself from what I could see," he said with one last demeaning chuckle. I began fighting his hold. It was very frustrating to want something to happen that wasn't happening. I couldn’t handle that. I hit his chest and tugged on his arm. I screamed, I called him names.
