  39. ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Tu Shen suddenly shrunk beneath me until there was only a tiny thing moving in the clothes. He darted out and took off, an albino rabbit trying to race away. I laughed and chased him.

“I’m going to eat you whole,” I promised with a smile. I pounced and he shrieked, his feet kicking out from under him. I pressed my snout to his belly.

“Oh just imagine the power I might have. Two gods in one,” I said with a shudder. The creature beneath me shivered in fear, his little paws pressing on my face as if he could push me away. I opened my mouth, leaning in to swallow him. He shifted back and suddenly a naked man was beneath me.

“Do you think this will stop me from eating you? I prefer human flesh,” I purred. I opened my mouth wider and my teeth began to dimple his side, sinking in slowly. I was already imagining the raw, gory flavor of him.

“Stop!” He gasped, trying to squirm away beneath me. I pressed a paw to his long white hair and he hissed, unable to pull away while I had it pinned.

“I can help Lacey get her luck back!” He said through gritted teeth. “Let me go,” he insisted. I sighed and lifted my paw. He pulled himself upright. He was lean and pale, but with more muscle than I expected. He went over to his clothes, pulling his pants up over his pert ass. I snorted and he eyed me in outrage as I sat down with a smile.

“Must we do this with you like that?” He snapped. I shifted to my human form, standing with my suit still dry. Tension leaked out of Tu Shen. I looked around, wondering where all his people were. Then again he was at war. I’d learned Neo Atlantis’ werewolf pack was attempting to eliminate the kingpin god’s power over the underside of this city.

“You love them,” he said.

“Oh? Who is that?” I asked. I was disappointed I wasn’t getting the body of a god. Well, not today at least. There was always tomorrow. I smiled wider at him and his eyes slid down to my teeth for the briefest moment.

“The demon and headless horseman,” he said. I snorted in amusement then wondered how he knew who we all were.

“You have spies on us,” I said.

“Maybe,” he said with a little smirk. “But my knowledge of love is a separate matter.”

“Please, what love?” I asked in derision.

“You cannot fool a god of love, shapeshifter. I was made to know it,” he said. I felt hot all over and jerked my head away, grinding my teeth. He chuckled, looking at me in amusement as he leaned against the hallway wall.

“I’ll stop teasing you. Remington, the necromancer, has Lacey’s luck, yes? It’s paramount we get it back. This entire island is about to be ripped to shreds. I'm sure it would have drowned a long time ago but her power kept it afloat. Everyone here relies upon her luck to keep living. That’s why Lacey is a god–because her power is beyond normalcy.”
