“It’s red,” I yelled over the music. Lacey looked at me and winked. I frantically pointed forward. “Eyes on the road!”
This was chaos. Cars were speeding in front of us, cars that would be ramming into this car in a few seconds. Why? I thought. Why the fock did the new person on our ragtag team have a death wish? I pinched my nose and groaned.
We crossed into the intersection and my eyes flew up to the light and it switched to green. A car sped towards us, ready to ram our side.
“Fock,” I yelled, lunging towards Lacey, my arm shooting out to make sure she wouldn’t be ejected from the car. The car honked and swerved. I watched it crash into a fire hydrant. Water geysered up into the sky before gushing back down to the car and surrounding street.
“Oops!” Lacey said, not looking concerned.
I blew out the biggest breath of my life and settled back in my chair. Lacey laughed while her hand slid over to my thigh and squeezed. My cock jerked in my pants.
“I thought you liked fast-paced rides?” She asked, having to yell over the music. Still squeezing my thigh, she used her other hand to roll down the windows, air whooshed into the vehicle while we swerved wildly in the street.
“Christ! Hands on the wheel!” I shouted. She settled her manicured hand back on the wheel.
“I’ve been cooped up in that penthouse too long. Are you afraid of getting hurt?” She flashed her white teeth in a wide smile and I shivered. She and Puca were far too similar in certain ways. And that wasn’t even his obsessive, copycat nature. That was just him—smiles too wide and pushing boundaries.
“Afraid of you getting hurt,” I growled. Lacey’s hand shifted a little further up on my thigh and squeezed again. Her pinky brushed my dick and that didn’t help things. After two more close escapes from crashing, we finally made it to her place. We rode the elevator up to the top and she marched into her home.
“Tell me, Dullahan, why are you so concerned for me?”
“Because you’re trying to kill yourself,” I grumbled, stepping into her condo slowly. I swallowed thickly, nervous. Lacey wandered into her open floor plan kitchen and grabbed a water bottle from the fridge.
There was always lots of gold in a leprechaun’s den. Gold and me didn’t mix. Every creature had a weakness and gold was mine. It was like an allergy—getting too close made me dizzy and sick. It weakened me and if someone used gold as a weapon? Well, I was fucked. Good thing most weapons were forged with tougher material.
Lacey opened a drawer and pulled out a gold dagger, placing it on the counter. Fuck me.
“Don’t like charcuterie?” She asked as she arranged meats and fruits on a wooden board. I grunted in response. She plucked a grape and popped it into her mouth. My eyes lingered too long on her lips. I frowned and looked away.
