  90. THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING

We heard a number of voices, some calling out, some urgently speaking, and the strobing lights of the cars out front were being reflected up at us from the driveway. There came a smash that made both Troy and me jump. It sounded like the front door to the house was being rammed. Moments later, the internal garage door handle began to turn. I grabbed hold of Troy and pushed my face into his shoulder, my eyes tight shut. Troy wrapped his arms round me and held me close as we waited for our world to either start spinning or to stop turning for good.

BREAKING NEWS. It’s 14 May! Date finally set for Zafrikan Trading Alliance referendum!

It’s official. Next year, on 14 May, Albion will have the chance to vote on whether or not to stay in the Zafrikan Trading Alliance. Nick Allumina, the Business Secretary, informed the Daily Shouter ahead of this afternoon’s official statement that 14 May would be a historic date for Albion, a chance for the country to stand on its own two feet. ‘We are delivering on the main manifesto pledge made by our Prime Minister, Tobey Durbridge. The people of this country expect and deserve no less. This is our chance to take back control.’

Julian Soga, Shadow Business Secretary, stated, ‘This is a tragic day. As a member of the ZTA, Albion enjoys free trade, travel, education, work and domicile with most countries in Zafrika. Outside the ZTA, the vast majority of Albions will find themselves worse off, with less freedoms and the inevitable price rises of most goods and services, including food, clothes, raw materials and manufacturing. Hundreds of thousands will lose their jobs and struggle to find another. Our manufacturing industry will die as organizations leave our shores and set up in other countries with better trading terms. Everything we as a nation buy from Zafrika will become far more expensive. Everything we sell to Zafrika will be subject to tariffs, making our goods more expensive and less attractive. This is a lose–lose situation for Albion and, if we leave the ZTA, we will be feeling its adverse effects for not just months but years to come. The campaign begins today to convince the Albion electorate to remain a part of the ZTA.’

Nick Allumina accused Julian Soga and the Liberal Alliance of ‘scaremongering’.
