  90. THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING

The door opened and in walked Jon wearing a green shirt, black jeans, a black leather jacket, black gloves and trainers, closely followed by Jarvis dressed in denim jeans, a round-necked dark blue jumper and black boots. Jarvis strode over to Eva and stood just behind her, clearly a position he’d taken many times. He nodded at Eva’s male bodyguard, who immediately left the room, closing the door quietly behind him. His services were no longer required.

Jon looked around, casting a smile my way when he caught sight of me. I tried, but I just couldn’t dredge up one of my own. ‘How are you, Sephy?’ he asked.

‘Surviving.’ But only just.

Oh, Sonny, how could you …?

‘These days that’s all any of us can hope for.’ Jon shrugged.

Well, Callum, you gave me a sign. Just not the one I was hoping for.

‘Take a seat, Jon,’ Eva interrupted. ‘Then we can begin.’

‘Whatever you say, Eva.’ Jon sat down in an upright chair. Glancing at Tobey, alarm bells began to peal in my head immediately. The way Tobey was looking at him—

That look wasn’t even directed at me and yet dread pierced my body.

We were in for a bumpy night.

Nought model speaks out against ‘tokenistic TV ads’

Top model Darlene Grimes, 33, spoke out today against what she called ‘tokenistic TV ads’.

‘I’m fed up with being the token Nought who is only included in ads so that various organizations can tick their diversity box. Forget that! I’ve been in perfume ads where I’m the sole Nought among a number of Cross models and I’m always placed at the back. When I’ve appeared in non-tokenistic ads, such as a series of recent supermarket ones with a pretend Nought family, both the retail chain and I were blasted for promoting an unrealistic depiction of a Nought family – because apparently we Noughts don’t have families who eat dinner together or shop at supermarkets. I’ve even had people drag me on social media, saying there are too many Noughts on TV and every other ad has a Nought in it – all of which is so much racist rubbish. We Noughts exist, whether the complainers like it or not. These petulant bigots are not used to seeing Noughts in normal roles in TV dramas and in ads, so even a single face is one too many for them. It’s so tiring. To the bigots and the haters, my message is this – from the bottom of my heart and from the heart of my bottom, f*** you.’
