“Let me run it down for you. You knocked up my sister. You fucking raised your goddamn voice to her. You accused her of being a gold digger. Then you left her. That about cover it, or is there something else she didn’t tell me, Broxton? Because if you laid a single finger on her, so help me God, I will cut your fucking heart out while you’re still alive. Then I’ll hold your head down and drown you in a pool of your own blood.”
Holy fucking hell. This guy scared the shit out of me. “Beau, listen to me. I would never, ever lay a hand on Blaire. You know that. The only thing I hurt was her heart, and I am so, so sorry. I was stupid, but I really want this baby with her. I will support both of them so Blaire can still go to school. I will do everything in my power to take care of them.”
Beau was silent for a long moment, and then he said the words that were like a knife to my heart. “It’s too late.” Oh. God. She already went to the clinic? She must be so upset and scared, and my need to be with her intensified a thousandfold.
“Is she okay? Is she right there beside you? I should be with her.”
There was an extended pause. What the fuck is up with this guy and his dramatic pauses? “She’s in the truck. I’m in the gas station.”
“Please, Beau. Please let me talk to her. I want to apologize. I love her so goddamn much. I need to be with her right now. Just let me know if she’s okay.”
“She will be, but she doesn’t want to talk to you, and she doesn’t need you. She has me, and I’ll take care of her from now on. And I’m damn sure going to keep her away from assholes like you,” he snarled. “Now, lose my number and stay the fuck away from Blaire.”
And he hung up. Dammit to hell!
I promptly dialed him back, but the sonofabitch had blocked my number already. From what he said, it sounded like they were on the road. Probably to their parents’ home in Dallas where Blaire was going to stay until we moved to Boston. Their parents had passed away, but Blaire and Beau still owned the house. I cranked my brand new, black Escalade, intending to head to Dallas, when I thought back to the note I had left on her bed.
Shit, shit, shit. I had mentioned her pregnancy, and I couldn’t let someone else find that. I went back to her apartment and grabbed the note, adding it to the other memories before carefully folding down the top of the box.
