I was so confused. Where were all the other boxes? Beau and I were supposed to get her moved out today, but they had apparently moved everything out overnight. I found myself worrying about her carrying heavy boxes with the pregnancy, and I hoped like hell she was okay.
I lay there for hours, but she never came. I texted her over and over again, but she never answered. My fingers tapped out the same message repeatedly. I’m sorry, Blaire. I love you and our baby. It bounced back as undeliverable each time.
When it was dark outside, I repacked everything into the box, adding Wish Bear with Blaire’s engagement ring tied around his neck to the rest of the memories. Carrying the box down to my truck, I placed it on the front seat. I found an old Whataburger receipt in my truck and scrawled a note on the back of it, just in case she came back.
Blaire, I love you. I’m so sorry. I love our baby and want you both so much. I have our box. Call me. Please. -Love, Ax
I left the note on the bed where the box had been sitting and then locked up. When I got to the truck, I smacked myself on the forehead. Beau! She would probably be with her brother. Why hadn’t I thought of that before? I punched his name on my phone screen and listened to it ring. I heard a gruff voice answer on the third ring.
“What the fuck do you want?” Yep, that was Beau.
“Beau, is Blaire with you?”
“Yep.”
“Her phone’s not working.”
“Got a new one.” No one could ever accuse Beau Atwood of being verbose.
“Can you please give me her new number?”
“No.” For Christ’s sake, Beau.
“Well, where are y’all?” I asked.
“I don’t see where that’s any of your goddamn business,” he growled menacingly.
“Beau, look. I know I fucked up. Bad. But…” I paused, wondering whether Blaire had told him about the baby. I didn’t want to blurt it out if she didn’t want him to know. “What did she tell you?”
“Everything.” Come on, you robotic asshole. Give me something here.
I let out a long breath, not wanting to fuck up any more than I already had by telling her brother about her pregnancy. “Can you be more specific, please?” Ugh, I wanted to scream at him, but he was my only lifeline to Blaire right now.
