Statuesque, with eyes the color of Wedgewood and her long black hair held back by rhinestone barrettes, she was positively the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. The Mediterranean tone of her skin against the crisp white of her blouse made her uniform appear brighter than all others in the room, and her narrow nose and determined jaw were more perfect than any ever sculpted in marble. She was a goddess, and six months later, Alena Zacharias, daughter of a Greek fisherman, and Oliver Kane, son of a British tycoon, were married.
Alena hadn’t been born into wealth, but it didn’t take long before everyone thought she had. The closets of the penthouse soon overflowed with gowns and dresses for every occasion, and many a night she could be found alongside her husband sipping champagne with the members of the Club.
As time went on, Alena began to grow tired of constantly traveling to the opulent homes of their friends. She demanded a stately manor of her own. A mansion that would dwarf the largest home in all of Surrey, and by simply walking over the threshold, it would announce to those who visited the breadth of the Kane fortune. The only problem was Oliver was content in showing his affluence by the amount of collectible automobiles parked in a leased garage. It didn’t matter their shiny bonnets only saw the light of day when they were chauffeured to car shows at the Club because the placards displayed his name as the owner.
It was the only argument they had ever had, and it went on for days. Oliver balked at leaving the comfort and convenience of the penthouse. Like his precious cars, the flat was paid for. Since his monthly salary barely covered the bills created by their lavish lifestyle, a new home was out of the question, at least until Oliver could get his hands on his trust fund. Started by his father the day he was born, when Oliver reached his thirtieth birthday, it was his to do with as he wanted. Promising Alena a house second to none if she could wait two years, she reluctantly agreed, and their fight ended in a night of passion. Less than two months later, Alena discovered she was pregnant, and not long after that, her doctor told her she was carrying twins.
Oliver was elated. For generations, there had only been one child born to each Kane forefather, but now he would have two to carry on the family name, and he swelled with pride as he watched his wife’s belly grow. As each day passed, his priorities began to change. He was going to be a father, and fathers provide for their young. Unbeknownst to Alena, Oliver sold all of his cars. She was going to give him children, and he was going to give her a mansion like no other.
