“Just beginning to stir, so I thought I’d give you a few minutes to wake up before all hell breaks loose again.”
Joanna smiled as she pushed herself into a sitting position. Since that afternoon, a surreal warmth had enveloped her, and gazing at Addison, Joanna knew it would never wane. “I love you.”
“You’ve been saying that a lot today.”
“I’ve been saving up.”
“Me, too,” Addison said, waggling her eyebrows.
Joanna chuckled and was just about to toss aside the sheets when something caught her eye. “What’s that all over your shirt?”
Addison looked down at the stains on the fabric and chuckled. “Robert. He started squirming about an hour ago, so I checked his nappy like you showed me and he was soaked, so I decided to do the deed, but someone forgot to tell me that I needed a shield. I almost grabbed the breast pump, but it was far too small.”
Joanna burst out laughing. “Oh my God, I’m sorry! Little boys are different.”
“Yes, well I do know that little boys are different from little girls. I just wasn’t privy to the distance and arc at which their pee can fly.”
Joanna had seen many sides to Addison over the past two years. The good, the bad, the angry, the headstrong, and the intelligent, but this side was as new as it was refreshing.
“Who are you and what have you done with the real Addison Kane?” Joanna said with a sparkle in her eye.
“I’m just a woman in love with a woman,” Addison said, smiling as she reached over Joanna’s hand. “A woman who has given me two beautiful children, and whether they throw up on me a hundred times or pee on me a thousand, I’d rather have that than not have them...or have her.” Noticing how Joanna’s mouth had gone slack, Addison squeezed her hand as she gazed into her eyes. “I told you, I’ve changed.”
Joanna could feel the goosebumps as they covered her arms, and giving Addison the once over, Joanna leaned her head to the side. “Born out of wedlock – eh?”
Addison grinned. “Growing on you, is it?”
“Yes,” Joanna said in a breath as she leaned in for another kiss. “Yes, I think it is.”
