Being the only offspring of Xavier Kane afforded Oliver Kane a childhood envied by many. Growing up in Surrey, and attending the most prestigious schools, he lived the life of a rich man’s son to the hilt, much to the chagrin of his father. A frugal man, although Xavier had chosen an upscale neighborhood in which to raise his son, where Bentleys and Rolls-Royce could be seen leaving and entering the estates, Xavier had never felt the need to wear his bank account on his sleeve. He saw no point in having a staff of twelve or traveling to the Far East for tailored suits made of silk. In his eyes, owning box seats at the various stadiums and arenas just because he could was absurd, and having more than one automobile in his garage was wasteful. Unfortunately, his son thought differently.

Oliver was all about having money and spending it, and with the help of the inheritance left to him by his grandfather, when Oliver turned twenty-one, Xavier could do nothing but sit back and watch as his son spent and spent and spent some more. The young man’s wardrobe changed like the tide, and if there were an event, musical or sporting, being held in the United Kingdom, he’d be in attendance, front row center...as long as the family chauffeur was available to take him.

Oliver knew little, if anything, about automobiles, including how to drive them, but while attending university, one of his classmates invited him to an event held at the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall. Enamored with the luxury and history of the private club, he applied for membership and was quickly approved if only for one reason. There weren’t many on the election committee who didn’t know the name of Oliver’s father.

Shortly after receiving his club lapel pin, Oliver learned to drive, and then purchased his first of many vintage automobiles. His father soon grew weary of Oliver’s frivolousness, and after endless arguments, Oliver left the house in Surrey, leased a garage for his growing collection, and moved into a penthouse apartment in Knightsbridge.

In an ultra-modern flat, with every convenience money could buy, Oliver embraced the life of a well-to-do bachelor. During the day, he took up space at Kane Holdings, bringing home a pay packet based only on his last name, and at night, he enjoyed the grandeur and ambiance of the finest gentlemen’s clubs in London. However, during one of the many charity affairs at the Club, Oliver’s interest moved from the opulence of his surroundings to one particular member of the staff bringing food to the table.
