“It was either that, or I was going to explode,” Joanna said as she began to feed Sheridan.

“Funny how things work, isn’t it?”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, if I’m not mistaken, you had no intention of coming home as long as Addison was here, yet something you never forgot before...you did today. Now, here you are, your life forever changed because you produce milk like a Holstein.”

In an instant, Joanna was reduced to a fit of giggles, and unable to hold the bottle still, Sheridan began to squawk almost instantly.

“Oh bugger, slide a cheek,” Fran said, slipping between Sheridan and Joanna. Placing the nipple back into Sheridan’s mouth, within seconds the only sound in the limo was Joanna, who was still trying to rein in her amusement.

“You know, it’s amazing how much I know about babies now,” Fran said as she adjusted Sheridan’s blanket. “I mean, I learned a fair bit with my nieces and nephews, but nothing like this.”

“That’s not necessarily a bad thing,” Joanna said as she wiped away her tears of laughter. “That way you’ll be prepared when it happens to you.”

“I’m not sure that day’s going to come.”

“No? But you love children. That’s obvious.”

“I do, but Connie...well, if you think Addison is a workaholic, you need to meet my partner,” Fran said with a snort. “Not that we’ve never talked about it, especially once you got preggers, but she’s just not parent material. She loves her work, and I think she loves me, but children, they’re not in the cards. She’s much too single-minded for that.”

“That’s a shame.”

Fran shrugged. “It is what it is, and besides it gives me the chance to spoil everyone else’s children and still go home to a quiet house.”

“I don’t know, after all these months of quiet, I think I’m going to like a little noise.”

“You’re not the one we need to worry about.”

Joanna gave the woman a side-eyed glance. “Give her a little credit, Fran. Addison may not know a lot about babies, but she knows they cry.” Seeing Fran’s eyes instantly grow larger, Joanna let out a snort. “Okay, well if not, she’s in for a surprise.”

Fran smiled, and as she did, she spied her mobile still sitting on the seat across the way. “Oh, speaking of surprises, I have another to add to your list.”

Chapter Forty-Six

Evelyn came out of the kitchen and sighed. After rushing into the house for a much-needed shower, Addison ran back down the stairs and planted herself on the step third from the bottom, where she had remained for the last half hour. “You really need to learn some patience.”

“I thought I had, but...” Addison stopped and scowled. “Where the hell did she go?”
